TravelSMB provides some funding for travel, with priority given to graduate students who are members. For full details, please see the webpage on Landahl Travel Grants. The San Jose Norman Y. Mineta International Airport (SJC) is the closest airport, and is approximately 3 miles from the Fairmont. Don't forget to check the Southwest Airlines web site. Southwest and American Airlines have the most flights into SJC, but Southwest does not appear in discount airline search engines such as Travelocity, Expedia, or CheapTickets.com. There is no hotel shuttle, so the fastest way to get to the hotel is taxi (approx. $15-$20). It is possible to take the Valley Transportation Authority bus (Route 10, aka the Airport Flyer) from SJC to the Light Rail station, and then take the Light Rail to the Fairmont. Here is a map of the Light Rail system: http://www.vta.org/schedules/pdf/SC_LRT_MAP_color.pdf. Routes 901 and 902 both travel from the Metro/Airport Light Rail stop and the San Jose Convention Center stop. For more scheduling information, visit http://www.vta.org/schedules/light_rail_schedules.html. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is another good option, since it is a larger airport, with more airlines and flights. Although it is approximately 37 miles from the Fairmont, there is a Caltrain (http://www.caltrain.com http://www.caltrain.com) station near the airport, and Caltrain connects to the Light Rail. Take BART (http://www.bart.gov) from SFO to the Millbrae station (this is a short trip - it's just one stop away). From Millbrae, take Caltrain to Mountain View, and transfer to the Light Rail. Take the Light Rail to the San Jose Convention Center stop. Super Shuttle or another paid shuttle service is probably quicker. Oakland Airport (OAK) is approximately 39 miles from the Fairmont. You can take BART to Fremont and the VTA 180 bus (http://www.vta.org/index.html) to Downtown San Jose (near Second Street and W. Santa Clara Street). A paid shuttle is another option, and is probably quicker. Super Shuttle (http://www.supershuttle.com) requires reservations from OAK.
