The Head Bates Cross Country and Track Coach from 1952-1995, Walter Slovenski coached 26 All-Americans and turned the Bates Cross Country and Track programs into teams of the highest caliber during his time at Bates. For decades now, the cross country team has started the season by squaring off against returning alumni on a course that winds around the Bates campus. Here is a record of the outcome of those matchups. A three time All-American, Paul Hammond is one of the greatest runners in Bates history.
