How To Use the Watermarks Archive
This "Electronic Briquet" exploits in a variety of ways the flexibility of access and the ease of manipulation of data inherent in the electronic medium. These advantages of the electronic medium make possible
-
Enhanced Searching for Matching Papers
-
A convenient search form makes it possible for you to search for paper matches not only by watermark, but by any of the ten elements of description incouded in the descriptive catalog of papers, or by a combination.
- | Go to Instructions for Searches | Go Directly to the Search Form |
-
Close Study of Watermark Images
-
the capabilities of today's World Wide Web browsers give you several options for close study of watermarks:
- on-screen study of watermark images --
- enlargement of Dylux® contact prints for close study of details on the screen
- reduction of images for the purpose of simultaneous viewing of two or more watermarks for comparison
- downloading & saving images for
- integration of illustrations into your own computer presentations
- your own customized image enhancement
- generation of hard copy
- actual-size prints for comparison with your own prints or tracings of watermarks
- prints (in any size) for inclusion in printed papers or handouts to accompany talks
Expansion of the Archive
-
In addition, the archive itself is capable of ongoing expansion by the very people who use it, for the advantage of those who will use it later. (It is a new vehicle for publication of papers in manuscripts and an experiment in international collaborative scholarship.)
You will probably find applications for it that go beyond those which I have envisaged in setting it up. If that happens, I hope that you will forward them for inclusion on this page, using the response form here provided.
