Men Take Fifth at Opens

After placing third at the Division III New England championships last weekend, Bates came back and surpassed all of the Division III competition at this weekend's Open New England Championships, placing fifth. The team was powered by exceptional performances in the shot, in which Pless, Murtagh, and Ethan took first, third, and fifth, respectively. Pless's throw of 58-10 surpassed his next competitor and his own PR by over two feet. Murtagh's throw was also a two foot best that poises him well for the upcoming national championships.

Murtagh also placed third in the hammer, while Pless and Ethan took third and fifth in the disc. The distance runners fared well on Friday, as Noah managed to put on a solid move late in a highly tactical 5000 to take third in 14:51. Elmo concluded his season well, running 32:27 in the 10,000, bettering his PR by nearly 30 seconds. On Saturday, Big Red continued a solid string of steeple performances, running 9:36 and securing a trip down to Pennsylvania for ECACs next weekend.
