3000 Meter Time Trial
11-13-2009
3k Time Trial Bodes Well For Track

On Friday, the 13th of November those team members not competing in Saturday's regional championships ran a 3000 meter time trial on the Bates indoor track. Troy Calandra '12 (Catnip) won the event with a time of 9:10, followed by Peter Gurney '11 (Sweetums) in 9:13 and Griff Stabler '10 in 9:15. Calandra took things out fast, opening with a 29 second 200, establishing a considerable gap on the field, which he didn't relinquish for the duration of the race. Graham Pearsall '13 attempted to stay close to Calandra, but couldn't handle the pace, and in the last 800 meters fell back to 6th, finishing in 9:22. Meanwhile, from about 400 meters into the race, Sweetums led a chase pack behind Catnip and Graham. Sweetums and a few others made up ground on Catnip in the last 1000, but moved too late, and couldn't overcome the deficit.
