State of Maine Meet 10/13/2012

Bates beats Bowdoin in an unbearably close race

Bates’ seasonal success continued into the State of Maine meet, where the Bobcats once again beat all the competition that they faced. Bates took six of the top ten places, to narrowly edge out rival Bowdoin College by one point. The Bates men were led by Big Red, who continues to have an outstanding junior season. B’red’s surge over that last mile shook things up and made Bates’ victory possible, by breaking up Bowdoin’s front pack of three. Wortham, Tully, Noah, James, and Elmo were close behind, as they have been all season, to gobble up the competition in the last mile and display Bates’ dangerous depth. Many members of the team, who were racing in their last meet of the season, took advantage of the mostly flat course to post lifetime bests. Myles, a mid distance oriented senior, took advantage of his last cross country race ever to significantly PR for the last time over the distance he loathes. Tweet also ran well, coming within a second of breaking 29 minutes. Tweet’s success in cross will hopefully convince him to give up the cold, snowy winter season of skiing for the dry and stale air of indoor track. Dizzy Masticore and Chef also closed out their freshman seasons with style.
