Because New Urbanist developments are new kinds of places, and because their traditional aspects are located within a complex field that they cannot fully control, some developments might try to avoid that newness, and encourage narrowness and self-enclosure.
Just as we need to live themed places more broadly than their themes define, so we need to live New Urbanist communities within larger links and relations and tides.
