Acadia National Park, October 2004
|
|
Meredith and Brian went to Acadia again during October break to see the fall colors. Temperatures were cooler, but the leaves were beautiful and it was much less crowded.
(For best results while viewing, hit F11 now. After clicking on a thumbnail, use the arrows in the top right corner to navigate.)
The welcome sign framed in fall colors |
Our first outing takes us on the walk around Jordan Pond. |
Meredith crosses a stone walkway over the wetlands. |
A view of the Bubbles. Most of the trip was unfortunately cloudy, but you can see a glimpse of sunlight in the trees at the base of the mountain. |
Brian can't resist posing with suggestive rock formations in the background. |
Very clever wooden walkways allow you to walk right along the pond with dry feet. |
|
A meadow near the Jordan Pond House overlooks the pond and Penobscot Mountain. |
Even just driving around the park offers a view of spectacular fall colors. |
Meredith climbs part-way up the Precipice Trail for an even better view. |
A similar view without all those beautiful women cluttering things up. |
Brian enjoys the hike through the changing birch forest. |
A similar view without all those escaped mental patients cluttering things up. |
As we proceed up Champlain Mountain, the birches change to evergreens. |
Reflections in a still section of a small creek. |
The blue blaze and cairn mark the trail above another great view. |

Brian made it up also... |
Rainwater collected at the peak, with a view of the ocean below. |
We can see relatively far, despite the uncooperative weather. |
The signpost at the top gives us lots of options for getting down. |
The famously treacherous Precipice Trail is an option that we will save for another trip, however. |

Unlike during our summer trip, Thunder Hole was actually thunderous. |
The water recedes between waves. |
A closeup of the cavity that made Thunder Hole famous. |
I hope you'll indulge me a few shots from different angles. |
It was impressive to see the waves spraying at least 20 feet into the air! |
I made two 15 sec movies during this trip. Click here and here to see Thunder Hole in action. (Each is about 4.7 MB.) |

Waves approach the rocky coast. |
The offshore storm generated some impressive waves! |
The sunset on the Atlantic concludes our trip. Be sure to check out the last of the trilogy with our winter Acadia gallery. |
