BOBCATS DEFEAT WESLEYAN, 71-56
Bates earns third seed in NESCAC tourney

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Bates College women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season today with a convicing 71-56 win at Wesleyan University. The Bobcats secured the third seed in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and will host a first-round game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, against No. 6 seed Trinity.

Bates (17-6, 7-2 NESCAC) opened today's game with an 18-4 run over the first 7:25 and never led by less than 10 points the rest of the way. The Bobcats were effective with their passing in the opening stanza, recording 15 assists on 16 baskets in opening up a 38-21 lead at the break. Senior Kate Dockery (New York, N.Y.) led all players with 18 points and seven assists, matching a career-high. She was the only Bobcat in double figures, though five other players had at least seven points.

Wesleyan (15-9, 3-6 NESCAC) got 10 points each from sisters Nora and Shaleen Bowman, but the Cardinals were unable to overcome 23 turnovers and 30.4 percent shooting in the first half. Despite the loss, Wesleyan earned the seventh seed in the NESCAC tournament and will likely face Middlebury in the first round.
