Dockery ties school records with 37 points, five 3-pointers

FARMINGTON, Maine — Bates senior Kate Dockery (New York, N.Y.) tied two school records with 37 points and five 3-pointers this afternoon as the Bobcats withstood a furious rally from host University of Maine-Farmington to win , 74-70.

Dockery led the Bobcats (5-1) on 15-of-24 shooting, including five-of-seven from downtown. Her 37 points tied the school record set by Sarah Bonkovsky '97 Jan. 7, 1996 against Colby-Sawyer, while her five trifectas matched Bonkovsky's performance against Hamilton Feb. 15, 1997 and that of Amy Taylor '99 against Hamilton in January of 1996. Bates as a team established a new school record with 10 3-pointers in the game. In addition to Dockery's five, junior Julia Price (Mansfield, Mass.) had three, classmate Carla Flaherty (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore Laura Nafe (Roland, Ark.) had one each.

Bates opened up a 40-26 lead by halftime as Dockery scored 19 of her points in the first frame. The lead grew to as many as 17 on a trifecta by Price just over five minutes into the second. UMF (5-3) went on a 13-3 run after that, cutting the gap to seven at 57-50 at the 12:11 mark. Dockery and Nafe hit the next two buckets to put the lead back into double figures.

The Beavers clawed back with another big run, outscoring Bates 14-3 over a five-minute span, getting to within on a pair of free throws by Jocelyn Sawyer with 2:30 remaining in the game. Dockery scored the Bobcats' final three buckets over the rest of the game as Bates escaped with the victory.

Flaherty was the only other Bobcat in double-figures with 12 points, while Price added nine. Junior center Lisa Golobski (Methuen, Mass.) contributed a game-high six assists. Sawyer led the Beavers with 16 points on 10-of-12 free throw shooting. Kate LaHaye had 15 points and a game-high 17 rebounds, while Sam Hunt had 14 points for UMF, who outscored Bates 16-1 from the line in the second half to fight their way into the game.
