BATES TAKES THIRD PLACE AT SPRINGFIELD
Dubois earns All-Tourney honors in 83-67 win over Staten Island

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Bates College women's basketball team used a 33-20 turnover advantage and a 29-13 margin in offensive rebounds to claim an 83-67 victory over the College of Staten Island in the consolation game of the Naismith-Holiday Inn Classic at Springfield College today.

Bates (6-2) was paced by 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals by All-Tournament selection Lauren Dubois (Beverly, Mass.). Rookie guard Heather Taylor (Turner, Maine) contributed 12 points and sophomore guard Laura Nafe (Roland, Ark.) added 10 points and three assists.

Staten Island (6-6) took an early 8-4 lead and were up by three at 9-6 five minutes into the game. The Bobcat reserves came in and took over in the next five minutes, going on a 21-6 run to take a 27-15 lead with 10:43 left, an advantage they would never relinquish. Bates' advantage grew to as many as 14 points before the Dolphins scored the final four points of the half, cutting the deficit to 48-38 at the break.

A 9-5 CSI run to start the second half cut the lead to six just over six minutes in at 53-47, but the Bobcats responded by scoring the next five buckets, including two each from Taylor and sophomore Kim Hoffman (Natick, Mass.). The Dolphins battled to within six again with eight minutes remaining, but the Bobcats answered again and ended the game with their largest margin, 16, at 83-67.
