BATES CAPTURES NORWICH INVITATIONAL TITLE, 73-67, OVER HOSTS
Padonou Tournament MVP, Wilson All-Tourney

NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- All five Bates College starters scored in double figures as the Bobcats (4-1) defeated the host Norwich University Cadets (3-2), 73-67, to capture the Ed Hockenbury Classic tournament title.

Trailing by nine points, 66-57, with just over six minutes remaining in the game, the Bobcats outscored Norwich 16-1 over the remainder of the contest. The first-year tandem of Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.) and Billy Hart (Haverhill, Mass.) each had a game-high 15 points, while senior Garth Timoll (Owings Mills, Md.) had 14 and eight rebounds. Hart had a game-high four steals. First-year center Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) earned All-Tournament honors with 13 points and eight boards, while tournament MVP Rommel Padonou (Libreville, Gabon) notched his third straight double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Bobcats protected the ball well, committing only seven turnovers and nine fouls. Bates has now surpassed the team's victory total for all of last season and is off to its fastest start since going 5-1 in 1995-96.
