BATES MEN'S HOOPS STORMS PAST WENTWORTH, 84-53

LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College men's basketball team scored 22 unanswered points to close out the first half and the Bobcats cruised from there, taking an 84-53 decision over the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards in Alumni Gym tonight.

Bates (11-3) extended its winning streak to seven games with the victory. The Bobcats were led by 21 points and a team-high six rebounds from senior Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.). Junior forward C.J. Neely (No. Easton, Mass.) added 16 points and junior guard Angelo Salvaggio (Portland, Maine) chipped in 10.

Wentworth (2-9) held a slim 20-19 lead on Adam Hansen's (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) bucket with 4:23 left in the first half, but the Bobcats took off from there. The Leopards committed six turnovers and missed three field goal attempts and two free throws in that stretch, while Bates scored on nine straight possessions before missing a buzzer-beater and taking a 41-20 lead into the break. Neely led all scorers with 12 points in the first, while Hansen added 10 points in the stanza.

Hansen led Wentworth with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Junior Mukhtar Conry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 12 points off the bench. The Leopards committed 32 turnovers in losing their fifth straight contest.
