Bates 88, Colby 75
at Lewiston, Maine

LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College men's basketball team never trailed en route to their sixth straight win overall and their third in a row over CBB rivals Colby, taking an 88-75 decision in Alumni Gym.

The Bobcats (10-3, 2-0 CBB) outscored Colby 20-9 over the first 5:35 of the contest, led by seven points from senior Ed Walker (Roxbury, Mass.) over that stretch. Colby senior Damien Strahorn (Menlo Park, Calif.) and rookie Patrick McGowan (No. Attleboro, Mass.) kept the White Mules in the game in the first half with 12 points each. McGowan's 3-pointer with 5:01 left in the first brought Colby to within one point at 39-38, but the Bobcats took a 49-46 lead into the locker room.

Strahorn hit the first bucket of the second stanza to get his team back within one, but Bates answered with an 11-2 run over the next 3:06, pushing the lead to 60-50 on a hoop by sophomore Brian Gerrity (Manchester, Maine) at the 16:09 mark, a margin the Mules could not overcome.

Bates placed five players in double figures, led by Walker's 21 points and career-highs from Gerrity with 17 points and six assists. The Bobcat front line produced a pair of double-doubles, as senior Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) had 13 points and 11 boards, while junior C.J. Neely added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Ramon Garcia (Haverhill, Mass.) had 11 points and four assists. The Bobcats shot a season-high 56.2 percent from the floor, including 56.5 percent from 3-point range (13-23).

Colby (6-6, 0-1 CBB) was led by Strahorn's game-high 23 points and 18 from McGowan. The Mules shot just 35 percent from the field in the second half after hitting 50 percent in the first.
