Next Reunion in 2000. Mark Hurvitt has a new job as principal of Stonington Elementary School on Deer Isle. He and his family have moved from the mountains to the coast!... Last summer. Catherine Klein and her family moved from the East Coast to Pleasanton, Calif. "We are excited about being in this wonderful part of the country," she wrote, "but we do miss the East." Husband Riad Manaa is a research scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Lab. Their three sons enjoy the new surroundings and Catherine will look for a new job.... At the Univ. of Minnesota, Anna Schroder is the research associate in the otolaryngology department. Last March, she earned her Ph.D. in communication disorders, and conducts studies in basic theoretical hearing research in the field of psychoacoustics.... Daniel Scully has been promoted to managing director of Boston Magazine, overseeing the publication's general operations. Scully has been with the magazine for 13 years, most recently as general manager. In his new position, Scully hopes to "expand the reach" of the magazine. He lives in Charlestown.

Next Reunion in 2000. Hamilton College trustees have approved David Bailey for tenure. A geologist, he is a specialist in chemical signatures of volcanic rocks; he is coauthor of a NSF grant, "Enhancement of the Undergraduate Science Curriculum at Hamilton College through the Addition of an X-Ray Microanalysis System," which resulted in a $97,060 award to the college.... Dr. Kristin Holm has joined the medical staff of the Thayer Unit in Waterville at Mid Maine Medical Center. A pulmonologist and specialist in critical care medicine, she joins the Specialty Center and also is medical director of the Critical Care Unit. Formerly chief resident of internal medicine at Loyola University's Medical Center VA Hospital, she also completed a pulmonary and critical core medicine fellowship at Indiana Univ.... Adam Sharaf recently has relocated to Connecticut with his employer, UAP Executive Partners. He had been working for the company in Paris.

Next Reunion in 1998. In Detroit, Robert Benintende is global new markets training manager at Ford Motor Co. In July he enrolled in the executive M.B.A. program at Michigan State Univ.... Anne Bingham-Harquail Perkins reports: "I am living in Cocoa Beach, Fla., with my husband and four sons and enjoying the surfing and sun. My husband is the executive officer of the USCGC Vigilant. We are due to move again next summer: move number eight. Full-time motherhood -- not for wimps! Best thing I have done since marrying and bearing children was coaching the U.S. Coast Guard Academy men's lacrosse team for two years ('95 and '96), taking them to second place in the Pioneer League in '96. We were undefeated except by the league champions. I was runner-up for league coach of the year and one of only two female coaches of men's college lacrosse teams in the country, as far as I know. What a blast!"... Jane Farr Burns teaches Spanish in the Albuquerque (N.M.) public schools.... Folks at Bates are delighted to have Becky Swanson Conrad return to the staff as major gifts officer in the Development Office. She will be qualifying prospects for the new Academic Building project along with other capital or endowment initiatives. Formerly she worked in the offices of Dean of Students, Dean of the Faculty and, most recently, as assistant to President Harward. Welcome back, Becky!

Next Reunion in 1998. Steven Stone is a partner in the 260-lawyer Washington, D.C., office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. A business and finance lawyer, Stone has been with the firm since 1988. He concentrates in the regulation of broker-dealers, investment advisers, and investment companies under federal and state law. Morgan Lewis is the fourth-largest law firm in the country.... Valerie Toner now is head of adult planning and programs at the Buckham Memorial Public Library in Fairbault, Minn. Her colleagues at East Providence (R.I.) Public Library said she "did a great deal to make people feel comfortable any time they stepped into the Library." Valerie previously had been children's librarian at the Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield, Mass., and served all branches in East Providence for eight years as adult services librarian. She earned her M.A. in English from the Univ. of Nebraska.... At Biddeford Savings Bank,William Zafirson has been elected assistant vice president and commercial loan officer. He is a director and corporator of Sweetser Children's Services in Saco as well as with the local Chamber of Commerce and Southern Maine Medical Center.

Next Reunion in 1998. Bert Cole, D.O., is in family practice at Appeldore Medical Group in North Hampton, N.H. He is a 1990 graduate of the Univ. of New England in Biddeford and received family practice board certification from Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center in 1993. His wife, Rachel, is a family nurse practitioner.... A senior sales rep for Englehard Corp. in Chicago,Timothy Jones received his M.B.A. in marketing from Fairleigh-Dickinson Univ. in 1997.... Vivienne Kaye West has been living in Maplewood, N.J., for the last few years. She writes that she often sees Ruth Slocum, who lives nearby. Vivienne happily reports that her 3-year-old son, Thomas, entered nursery school this fall.... Debbie Nixon Aisenberg writes from her home in Northborough, Mass., where she lives with her husband, Steve, and children, Michael (5) and Amy (18 months).... Lisa Quintal Loeb is teaching French full time at the Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford, Conn. She is working on an M.A.L.S. degree at Wesleyan. Children Jonah (9) and Hannah (7) are looking forward to another Bates Reunion. They still live at Choate, where her husband teaches.... Liz Smith-Freedman keeps busy with her three sons (ages 8, 4, and 1) and works part-time as regional director for Earth Share.

Next Reunion in 2001. John Kroger continues with his busy practice at Swift River Health Care in Rumford. In October, John was keynote speaker at the South Dakota Safe Childbirth Options conference, speaking on homebirth and natural childbirth.... John Luddy participated in the 22nd annual Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. He was among nearly 19,000 runners in what is the fourth-largest U.S. marathon.... There is a new member of the Bill Hiss '66 and Colleen Quint family. Jessamyn Lieu was born in January in Phu Tho, Vietnam, and arrived in Minot on June 18 to join brothers Josh and Jed.

Next Reunion in 1997. Special thanks to all our Reunion committee volunteers who helped make our 10th Reunion a truly memorable experience. Without your efforts, the weekend would not have been the success it was. Craig and Betsy Ervin Davies tackled the Twin Cities to Chicago bike tour last summer for the benefit of AIDS-related services in the cities. They peddled 500 miles with 1,600 other bikers, raising $5.4 million.... Son Daniel joins his sister Sarah in the family of Lisa Gianas Nitschke and husband Mark. Lisa is now full-time parenting, and they are still in Australia, where Mark in studying at the Lutheran Seminary.... In Cooperstown, N.Y., Elizabeth Peace Tito is a surgical resident at Bassett Hospital where her husband, Joseph, is a surgeon. She graduated from Dartmouth Medical School.... Jack Rose sends regards from San Francisco, where he's enjoying the carefree California lifestyle while working in institutional equity sales with Merrill Lynch.... Kellie Thibodeau, Peter Senghas '86 and family arrived in Plano, Texas, in October; he transferred with Northern Telcom, and Kellie is now working out of their home.

On Muscongus Bay last summer, Jared and Katherine Urner Schott enjoyed a cruise with Ann and Charlie Richardson '84 as did daughters Hannah (Schott) and Laurie Beth (Richardson), good friends and "future students of our favorite institution?" writes Kate.
