India
is the birthplace of the oldest religion in the world, Hinduism.
The sacred texts of the Vedas and the Mahabharata written
over 5,000 years ago are as true today as they were then.
For centuries, India's culture and religion has inspired and
attracted people from all parts of the world, starting with
Alexander the Great to the Beatles in the seventies. Nowhere
in the world would you find people of so many beliefs, culture
and races living together.
Geographical
Info: India is boredered on the north east by the Himalayas,
the Bay of Bengal and the Arabain sea on each sides of the
peninsula. The landscape changes very quickly as you go west
from the himalayas. Crossing over the Indo-Gangetic plain,
you come to the Great Thar Desert. Going down east from the
Himalayas, you would reach the Swamps and magroves of the
sunderbans. The peninsula is an ancient volcanic region of
basalt that seeped out when the great indian continental plate
collided with that of the asian plate 65 million years ago.
Political
Info: Its very hard to find a site on the internet with
a politically correct map of India (with Kashmir in its proper
place). I however managed to get one, and here it is. There
is however a new state of Uttarakhand. I will try and update
the map as soon as I can. Click on the map for a larger view.
Culture
/ Religion: Though India is the birthplace of Hinduism
and Buddhism, there are a multitude of religions beliefs throughout
the country. Hinduism and Islam are the the primary religions,
besides Buddhism, Sikhism, Parsi and Christianity. Religious
festivites are very big and pomp for this reason.
I
can fill pages with India. But out here, I just wanted to
provide a quick glimpse of the overall picture. If you have
any further questions, email me.
