MIDDLEBURY RUNS PAST BATES, 101-66

LEWISTON, Maine — The Middlebury College men's basketball team went on a 22-2 run late in the first half and extended their lead from there, taking a decisive 101-66 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) victory over the host Bates College Bobcats in Alumni Gymnasium tonight.

Bates (12-9, 0-6 NESCAC) led by five points at 29-24 on a bucket by junior forward C.J. Neely (No. Easton, Mass.) with 8:05 left in the first half, but the Panthers went on their decisive run at that point as sophomore Chris Corrati (Pawling, N.Y.) scored nine of his half-high 13 points over the next six minutes. Middlebury took a 46-31 lead on Eric Skaar's (Skillman, N.J.) 3-pointer with 2:18 left and had a 12-point margin at the break.

Middlebury (11-11, 3-4 NESCAC) opened the second half with a 17-7 run over the first five minutes of the second that was capped by back-to-back trifectas by sophomore Koby Altman (Brooklyn. N.Y.) and junior Eric Bundonis (Fairfield, Conn.). The Panthers placed six players in double figures on the evening, led by Corrati's 16 points and 15 from Bundonis and sophomore Nate Anderson (Hinesburg, Vt.). Altman and Skaar had 12 points apiece, while Mike Salek (Fairfield, Conn.) had 10.

Bates was paced by senior forward Alex Wilson (Duxbury, Mass.) who had 16 points and sophomore reserve guard Brian Gerrity (Manchester, Maine), who had 14, including five-of-seven from 3-point range.
