POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR : Assistant College Librarian for Bibliographic Services

 

SUMMARY AND SCOPE OF POSITION

 

              Provides professional expertise in library standards and systems to operate the library online catalog. Administers all software modules of the library catalog operating system. Provides systems workflow analysis with relation to the online catalog. Provides leadership in all aspects of cataloging, sets cataloging policy, and trains catalogers and other library staff working in the catalog. Incumbent’s subject expertise is music cataloging.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

 

1.              Administers all aspects of the library’s Innovative Interfaces Inc. Millennium System including but not limited to systems options and code tables, systems security and backup, managing database and index space allocation, managing access group allocation, creating and maintaining passwords and authorizations, coordinating installation of new software releases and new Millennium modules. Designated systems coordinator with III and primary contact for problem solving. Coordinates training with librarians and library staff on all new and updated Millennium modules.

 

2.              Provides leadership in all aspects of cataloging. Provides expertise in national standards for cataloging, classification and authority control. Assures the catalog maintains high quality standards. Sets cataloging policies and coordinates with other staff members to make sure individual, format specific, or project specific procedures are in line with overall cataloging policies. Maintains current versions of cataloging policies on the library web site.

 

3.              Creates and maintains the graphic display of the web version of the catalog. Continues the integration of the catalog and the library web site.

 

4.              Trains catalogers and other library staff working in the catalog. Trains individuals or groups as needed in cataloging, classification, and authority control procedures. Introduces new staff members to the catalog and its functions.

 

5.              Manages outsourcing and record loading projects as assigned. Coordinates cataloging related aspects of outsourcing and record loading projects that are assigned to other staff members.

 

6.              Catalogs materials in assigned formats, including scores, sound recordings, serials, and government documents. Principal contact for cataloging procedures in the archives and manuscripts database.

 

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

 

·                Assignment to liaison activities with faculty and collection development in music scores.

·                Serves on Library Management Team and other library, college, CBB and Infonet committees, task forces and working groups as assigned

·                Represents the library in state, regional, and national forums related to cataloging and knowledge management issues

·                Student worker training and supervision

·                Other duties as assigned
