This page contains information on the use of Google Analytics for the library website and the catalog; web logs for the library website, and Innovatives Web access log files. It grew out of work resulting from a session at IUG 2008 on using Google Analytics for the library catalog.
- Code had been put bates website (icms pages) about 2 years ago (2006).
- Code had been put on library website pages, but report was never set up and code was never verified, so those statistics don't exist.
- Beginning of July 2008: New code was put on library website pages on abacus (UA-709663-2; new version that supports https) (but see note below).
- Jim Hart made sure Muskie pages generated from ReDiscovery have the code; Regan was asked to put the code on the two pages coming from icms (Libray and Muskie splash pages). [It appears this has not been done as of 8/29/2008.]
- Steve will establish a process for enabling people to use the Google Analytics reports. This was a low priority and was not going to be done during the summer of 2008. Kat and Sharon have been added as people who can see the reports and Steve will add Laura. Until a process is established, people are on their own as far as using the reports and any trouble-shooting that may arise.
- July 1, 2008: Code was added to the library catalog (UA-709663-3; new version that supports https). Adminstrative work was completed so that code is verified and reports are being generated.
- Google analytics terms of use forwarded to Gene.
- Code was not placed in patron records until we can determine it will not report private information. This may mean any searching done via My Millennium is not reported.
- In 2009 we discovered the code was incorrectly placed on the library homepage (http://abacus.bates.edu/Library/). The coding error was corrected April 7, 2009. So use statistics from that URL date from April 2009, not July 2008.

Bates Web Logs
- August 2008: Jim Hart generated a report from abacus/Library web logs. He refined this report to remove web crawlers.
- August 2008: Jim hart generated a more specific report, [see if this link works once files are synched] used to determine whether the borrow/use table and loan rule pages accessed via location codes in the catalog record could be taken out of service.
Innovative Web access log files
- With Release 2007, Webpac usage can be analyzed using Web access log files.
- Will need to determine if and how these will be used, especially in conjuction with AquaBrowser statistics.
