Research projects in the Austin lab include efforts to better understand structure/function relations in metalloenyzmes that oxidize alkanes, develop catalysts that will enable the conversion of wood waste into fuels, and determine whether lead binds to metallothioneins, especially MT3, and what significance, if any, this binding might have for biological responses to lead exposure.

Her work has been funded by NIH, DOE, NSF and the Dreyfus Foundation.
