Additional Labs

Additional labs (and ideas for additional labs)

Everyone learns best by doing! This idea is fundamental to the way that we train experts, but it often is sacrificed when teaching large numbers of students. To the extent possible, get your students using their hands and their eyes and their ears!

We developed laboratory modules to accompany each of the modules we did in class. The modules we developed were often place specific. Very few schools would feel comfortable taking their classes out on a frozen lake with augers to measure dissolved oxygem concentrations in February or would be able to measure the snowpak on a nearby hill in January (the joys of life in Maine!). So we have taken some time to modify some of the labs that we have developed to make them appropriate for other locations. We also have ideas for labs that we offer to you for your development. Finally, we have some semester-long projects to suggest for those of you who prefer that approach as well as some links to labs we have developed for other courses that might be useful for you and your environmental science course.

Please send us ideas you have for labs or comments that you have on our labs so we can make modifications and additions.
