THE BULGARIAN PRESIDENT WAITS FOR BETTER WEATHER CONDITIONS

Thessaloniki, 15 November 2004

Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov is in the town of Ouranoupolis, northern Greece waiting for the weather to improve to continue his trip to the monastic community of Mount Athos in Chalkidiki.

Mr. Parvanov was expected to arrive in Karies, the capital of the monastic community, by boat but as a result of the heavy seas this was not possible. The Bulgarian President is currently in Ouranoupolis waiting for the weather to improve to continue his trip.

Mr. Parvanov is scheduled to visit the Holy Monastery of Zografou where he will stay overnight and tomorrow will visit the Holy Monastery of Hilandariou before departing for Thessaloniki later in the afternoon to return to Sofia.

This is the first time Mr. Parvanov is visiting Mount Athos as the President of the Bulgarian Republic.
