BEAUTY WILL SAVE THE WORLD”

Art, Music, and Athonite Monasticism

4 - 6 March 2005

Madingley Hall, Cambridge

Madingley Hall is a grand seventeenth-century country house 3 miles west of Cambridge. It belongs to the university and serves as a designated conference centre. With its 50 single rooms and 13 shared (all with en-suite facilities) it provides comfortable accommodation for up to 76 delegates as well as ample car parking in its 7-acre grounds.

Following the success of their first conference in 2003 the Friends of Mount Athos have decided to return to Madingley for a second conference in March 2005. Between dinner on Friday 4 March and lunch on Sunday 6 March there will be a series of seven talks presented by Orthodox theologians and art historians of international renown keen to make their topics accessible to a broadly based audience.

The main speakers will be:

Bishop Kallistos Ware (Oxford); Professor Ioli Kalavrezou (Cambridge, Mass.); Abbot Vasileios (Iviron Monastery); Dr Dimitri Conomos (Oxford); Aidan Hart (Shropshire); Dr John Nandris (Londonderry); Dr Sophia Sotiropoulou (Ormylia).

There will be a framework of Orthodox church services which the non-Orthodox will be welcome to attend.

Total cost (including registration, accommodation, all meals): £175.00 / $315.00

Full-time students (including registration, accommodation, all meals): £100.00 / $180.00

Non-residential rate (as above, but without accommodation): £80.00 / $145.00

Since the number of places is strictly limited, members are advised to make a reservation as soon as possible. The conference is also open to non-members.
