The Society of the Friends of Mount Athos is organising a two-week pilgrimage to the beautiful monasteries on Mount Pelion and the surrounding areas.
Our local host will be Metropolitan Ignatios of Volos who has arranged a fascinating programme of excursions and hospitality at monasteries and convents on the lofty peaks of Greece's Switzerland. We shall also see the city of Volos and the remarkable social, educational and cultural projects of the diocese, the picturesque villages and monastic communities on the Pelion hills, and be present at the consecration of a new monastic church. In addition, we shall stay at the ancient and historical Monastery of Xenia for two nights and at the newly restored Convent of Saint John the Baptist at Anatoli-Agias for four nights. This convent has nuns from many different countries (including the UK) who practise organic farming, animal husbandry, and architectural restoration. Distant visits may also be made to the Monastery of St Dionysios on Mount Olympus and to the Meteora.
