Autumn Meeting

 

 

 

There will be a meeting of the society in London on Tuesday 20 November 2007.

The meeting begins at 6.00 pm with a service of

 

Orthodox Vespers

 

in the church of St Dunstan in the West, 184 Fleet Street, EC4,

served by Metropolitan Kallistos.

 

After the service there will be a glass of wine at St BrideÕs Institute in Bride Lane.

 

At about 7.15 pm, also in St BrideÕs Institute,

 

Dr Marcus Plested

 

will give a talk entitled

 

Athos and the West:

Benedictines, Crusaders, and Philosophers

 

Marcus Plested read modern history at Merton College, Oxford, and went on to take a doctorate in theology under the supervision of Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia. Since 2000 he has been attached to the Institute for Orthodox Christian Studies in Cambridge, most recently as Vice-Principal and Academic Director. He has taught, written, and lectured widely on Patristic, Byzantine, and Orthodox subjects. He is the author of The Macarian Legacy: The Place of Macarius-Symeon in the Eastern Christian Tradition (Oxford University Press, 2004). He has been a frequent visitor to Mount Athos and was received into the Orthodox Church there in 1992.

 

 

There is no charge for attending the meeting. As always non-members are most welcome.
