Satyricon!
Advanced Latin (201, 301, 401)
Article Report Page
Assignment Description:
- Each 201 student must sign up (on Wednesday, September 13) for
4 (four) reports.
- Your report should take no longer than 5 minutes to deliver
(normally, 2 pages of double-spaced, type written text takes about
5 minutes to deliver). You do not have to write out your report,
unless you want to (I always read from a written text because I
get less nervous).
- You must hand in a one-page outline of your report.
- The articles you report on are considered by classicists to be
the among the most important contributions to Petronian
scholarship of the last century. Your job is a) to summarize the
argument of each article; b) to explain the author's analytical
and interpetive premises; c) to explain why you agree or disagree
with the author's analysis and argument. If a report assignment
lists two articles, be sure to explain the interpretive
disagreements (if any, between the authors). I will be mightly
impressed if you also consider previous article and seminar
reports we have heard in class in your analysis.
- You should feel free to come visit me in office hours to talk
about your reports before you give them.
- Articles marked "[ER]"
are on electronic
reserve for this course. You may down load these articles with
Adobe Acrobat. Other articles and chapters will require you to
walk to Ladd and request the reserve [2 hour] copy.
