To write this paper you will need to read two more Lives by Suetonius, one on a good emperor and one on a bad emperor.  You must read two - you will find that you will have more interesting things to say if you read all four lives listed below, but you may choose to read only two.

Having read these Lives, and Suetonius and Tacitus on Nero, write on one of the following topics:
 

• What Romans thought made a good and bad emperor.

 
• How Roman emperors used spectacle to enhance their authority.

The topic of this paper is the connection of the gladiator to the Roman notion of honor.  I have deliberately defined the topic very broadly to allow you a lot of scope in choosing a thesis.  If you want a consult on your thesis statement, send me an email or drop by.
