RELIGION
Religion in Bath was very much like it was throughout the Roman Empire. This consisted of the worship of many gods. This Roman religion combine with the local Celtic religion. Deities were adopted both ways. Locals adopted the Roman deities. Soldiers and foreigners adopted the Celtic Deities such as Epona, the horse-goddess.
In Bath a great temple was made for the local water spirit Sulis. An inscription read "To the goddess Sulis Minerva, Sulinus, son of Maturus, willingly and deservedly fulfilled his vows." This inscription was from someone who made a contribution to the Temple.
Romans seeking cures for their ailments would pray to Sulis Minerva before immersing themselves in the baths.
