Roman Civilization: The Republic
Course Description
In this course we will study the civilization and history of Rome from the foundation of the Republic in 510/509 BCE until Octavian established the Principate in 23 BCE. The course will have three components: a history lecture on Monday, a lecture on aspects of Roman culture and society on Wednesday, and a discussion section on Thursday.
Lectures on Monday and Wednesday will be held from 9:30 to 10:50 in Pettengill 52. Thursday discussion sections will take place in Pettengill G54.
Because of the size of the class it will be impossible to grant make ups or extensions for students whose reasons are not utterly compelling (i.e., if your story isn't as good as Russell Crowe was in Gladiator, don't bother).
