Campus Calls: To any campus number (777, 786, or 795 exchange)... Dial only the
last 4-digits of the number.
Local Calls: Dial 9 + 7-digit number.
Long Distance Calls:
From Office Telephones: Dial 9 + 1 + area code + 7-digit number.
From Dorm Telephones: Dial 9 + 1 + area code + 7-digit number +
6-digit authorization code number.
International Calls:
From Office Telephones: Dial 9 + 011 + country code + city code +
the number you're calling.
From Dorm Telephones: Dial 9 + 011 + country code + city code + the
number you're calling + 6-digit authorization
code number.
Credit Card Calls: Dial 9 + 1 + the 800 number found on the back of your
calling card (if your card has no 800 number, you may use
one from the list below), at the tone enter the area code
and number, at the second tone enter your calling card
number.

Collect Calls: Incoming collect calls to dormitory rooms are not allowed!

Emergency collect calls will be accepted by Bates security department
at: 207-786-6254
Because the telephone lines in dormitory rooms belong to Bates College they are
considered business lines by NYNEX, not residential service. Therefore, these
phones do not qualify for any discounted long distance calling packages (i.e.,
MCI's Family and Friends, etc.).

* Call Forwarding - All Calls: To forward all of your incoming calls to
another extension, or voice mail.
To activate: Lift handset... listen for dial tone... dial *2...dial the
destination extension number (6789 for voice mail) right
over the beeps... hang up.
Your calls will forward at the first ring (When this feature
is active you have no option to answer the incoming calls).
To cancel: Lift handset... listen for dial tone... dial #2... hang up.

account number.
Lift handset... listen for dial tone... dial #1 + 7-digit account
number to be billed + 9 + 1 + the number you are calling.

Call Transfer: To transfer a call from your extension to someone else.
From Office Phones: Press flash button... dial destination extension
number... announce the call... hang up. DO NOT press switch hook on
these phones or you will disconnect the caller!
From Dorm Phones: Press switch hook... dial destination extension num-
ber... announce the call... hang up.
If the dialed destination does not answer, pressing the flash button(or switch
hook on dorm phones) again will return you to the caller.
If the dialed destination does not wish to take the call, you will reconnect
to the original caller when the dialed destination hangs up.
To return to the caller if you reach voice mail, instead of a live person,
press the * key to turn off voice mail. You will automatically reconnect
to the caller after voice mail says good-bye.

Call Hold: To place a call on hold.
From Office Phones: Press flash button... dial #9 over beeps... lay
handset down... DO NOT HANG UP.
From Dorm Phones: Press switch hook... dial #9 over beeps... lay hand-
set down... DO NOT HANG UP.
To hold a call and consult with another party: Press flash button(on
office phones) or press switch hook(on dorm phones)... dial #9 over
beeps... dial third party.
To alternate between calls press the flash button(office phones) or
switch hook(dorm phones)... dial #9 over beeps... resume conversation.
To return to a held call: Hang up... your phone will ring... when you
lift the handset you will be reconnected.

Automatic Callback: To have a busy extension call you back.(Campus calls only)
To activate: After calling and receiving a busy signal... press flash
button(office phones) or switch hook(dorm phones)... dial *5 over the
beeps... hang up. When that extension becomes available, your phone
will ring with three short rings... lift handset and wait for answer.
To cancel: Lift handset... listen for dial tone... dial #5... hang up.

Last Number Redial: To retry a busy number.
When calling off campus and you receive a busy signal, hang up... Wait
a few seconds... lift handset... listen for dial tone... press *9 to
redial the number.

Three Way Call: To add a third party to your call.
Press flash button(office phones) or switch hook(dorm phones)... dial
third party... party answers... press flash button(office phones) or
switch hook(dorm phones)... all 3 parties are now connected.
To drop 1 party, that party simply hangs up. Remaining 2 parties can
continue to converse so long as 1 of the parties is on campus.

* Call Pick-Up: Allows you to answer a call which is ringing at another phone.
From an idle phone: Lift handset... listen for dial tone... dial *7...
greet the caller.
To hold a call and pick-up: Press flash button... dial #9 over
beeps... dial *7... greet the caller.
To return to held call: Hang up... your phone will ring... lift hand-
set and continue conversation.

was parked... resume conversation.
