Description
Twenty years ago international entrepreneur Yasuyuki Nambu dedicated himself to broadening the understanding between Japanese and Americans. He believed that by bringing American college students to Japan, a stronger bond between Japanese and American business and academic communities would be formed. Through his dedication to promoting unity between the two cultures arose the Nambu Foundation Summer Internship Program. The Pasona Internship Program is a non-profit organization which allows outstanding undergraduate and graduate students to participate in a two month internship at a Japanese company. The internship provides the student with valuable opportunities to learn Japanese business practices and to receive on-the-job-training. Since the start of the program in 1987, over 300 students have had the unique experience of working for a Japanese company.
Eligibility Requirements
The internship program is open to graduate students and selected undergraduate students studying in the United States. We welcome students of all majors who have a sincere interest in Japan. Conversational Japanese is a must. Fluency in Japanese is highly recommended for a successful internship.

7.
Summer Internship
in Tokyo sponsored by Forval Foundation --Ended the program
A summer internship program is available in the Tokyo area. It is an eight week (June & July) job experience to get to know Japan and its business. The Forval Foundation will pay and arrange round trip airline tickets from New York to Narita. The participants will stay in a company dormitory or Japanese family as a home stay. Basic financial support is provided.
The ideal applicant is a third year student (the second year is accepted if her/his language level is high) at Bates. A student whose major is Japanese or East Asian Studies is recommended prior to a student whose major is in another field and secondary concentration is Japanese.
The competition is quite high. For the internship in 1997, forty two colleges and universities (including two or three applicants from one school) applied for the twelve positions. Fortunately, our students have successfully gotten a position almost every year as shown below. Applicants who pass the first step are requested to do the oral interview in Japanese via telephone.
