Great discussion, folks. May I throw in a couple more cents worth? Re-reading the article closely, vis-a-vis the weather issue, I _think_ at least one of the setups was indoors, because the guy talked about running a cable from his apartment to the coffee shop next door. The idea is to put a wireless base station on a cable modem or a DSL modem and "spread the wealth". The pilot project could very well be LPL, although I like the mall idea, too. The "kinks in the cable" that I can think of are: 1) someone is already selling 'Net access by the minute in the mall via a kiosk, so this would compete with them 2) Adelphia and/or Verizon may have a "no redistribution" clause in their subscriber agreement. If they do, this would violate that clause and give them grounds to cut off service to anyone who did it. That's what I meant about being a "show stopper". Does anyone have a copy of either agreement? Jim Hart "Working together we _can_ make a difference."
