Setting up mail list



Here is an email from Jim Hart on how to set up a new mail list.  One
needs to get onto both our mail server and our ftp server to set
everything up.  This can be done physically in the Library or thru one
of those control programs like Timbuktu.

1) Turn on the monitor for ftp.avcnet.org
2) Make sure you are in Macjordomo by selecting it from the list that you 
get when you click on the rightmost icon in the menu bar at the top of 
the screen.
3) Wait until Macjordomo is idle.
4) From the Lists menu, select "New List".
5) Make the List Name whatever you want.
6) The List Address must be a combination of the POP Name and the POP 
Server, i.e. popname@mail.avcnet.org.  The popname doesn't have to be the 
same as the List Name.
7) Make the POP Password  ";socks", or, if you want to use a different 
password, please be sure to email a copy of the password to a couple of 
people, such as Rob and me.
8) The SMTP Server is mail.avcnet.org.  There is no alternate.
9) Problems To is list-owner@mail.avcnet.org.
10) I normally set the Reply To to List.
11) Click the List is Active check box.
12) Click the Users... button.  Save the changes.
13) Click the New button.  Fill in just the Address and Real Name.  Click 
Save.  Repeat for each user.
14) Click OK when done.
15) If this is to be an open discussion list, click the Done button, and 
go to step 21.  If not, click the Advanced... check box.
16) In the list box on the left, click on List type...  Choose a list 
type (probably "Only subscribers can post").
17) Click on User Commands... in the left side list box.
18) Click all the radio buttons in the Subscribers only column.
19) (optional) Click on Subject... in the left side list box.  Click the 
Change Subject check box.  Type in the name of the list with square 
brackets around it.
20) Finally, click the Save button.
21) Turn off the monitor on ftp.avcnet.org.
22) Turn on the monitor on mail.avcnet.org
23)  Make sure you are in Eudora Internet Mail Server by selecting it 
from the list that you get when you click on the rightmost icon in the 
menu bar at the top of the screen.
24) From the Server menu, select Account Information
25) Click the Add button.
26)  Type in the POP Name that you entered in Macjordomo for the User 
name.
27) Type in the same password that you assigned in Macjordomo.
28) Click the Save button.
29) Close the Account Information window.
30) Turn off the monitor.
