Here is an email from Jim Hart on how to set up a new mail list. One needs to get onto both our mail server and our ftp server to set everything up. This can be done physically in the Library or thru one of those control programs like Timbuktu. -- * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Rick Speer rspeer@lplonline.org Lewiston Public Library http://www.lplonline.org 200 Lisbon Street Voice: (207) 784-0135, Ext.208 Lewiston, Maine 04240 Fax: (207) 784-3011 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

1) Turn on the monitor for ftp.avcnet.org 2) Make sure you are in Macjordomo by selecting it from the list that you get when you click on the rightmost icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen. 3) Wait until Macjordomo is idle. 4) From the Lists menu, select "New List". 5) Make the List Name whatever you want. 6) The List Address must be a combination of the POP Name and the POP Server, i.e. popname@mail.avcnet.org. The popname doesn't have to be the same as the List Name. 7) Make the POP Password ";socks", or, if you want to use a different password, please be sure to email a copy of the password to a couple of people, such as Rob and me. 8) The SMTP Server is mail.avcnet.org. There is no alternate. 9) Problems To is list-owner@mail.avcnet.org. 10) I normally set the Reply To to List. 11) Click the List is Active check box. 12) Click the Users... button. Save the changes. 13) Click the New button. Fill in just the Address and Real Name. Click Save. Repeat for each user. 14) Click OK when done. 15) If this is to be an open discussion list, click the Done button, and go to step 21. If not, click the Advanced... check box. 16) In the list box on the left, click on List type... Choose a list type (probably "Only subscribers can post"). 17) Click on User Commands... in the left side list box. 18) Click all the radio buttons in the Subscribers only column. 19) (optional) Click on Subject... in the left side list box. Click the Change Subject check box. Type in the name of the list with square brackets around it. 20) Finally, click the Save button. 21) Turn off the monitor on ftp.avcnet.org. 22) Turn on the monitor on mail.avcnet.org 23) Make sure you are in Eudora Internet Mail Server by selecting it from the list that you get when you click on the rightmost icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen. 24) From the Server menu, select Account Information 25) Click the Add button. 26) Type in the POP Name that you entered in Macjordomo for the User name. 27) Type in the same password that you assigned in Macjordomo. 28) Click the Save button. 29) Close the Account Information window. 30) Turn off the monitor. -- Jim Hart "Open source software gives the system administrator the flexibility to make software work as needed without vendor-imposed limitations.
