I think I'd like to leave it where it is for now. That way, Rob and I
have easy access to "the console" if we need it. As time permits, we can
begin moving services from the old Mac IIsi's onto the iMac. Or, given
the fact that new iMacs can be bought for as little as $800, maybe we
ought to consider a second machine. Would make for good backup if one
failed. Just a thought.
Is anyone interested in learning how to administer the mailing lists?
Or, how about reorganizing our main web pages and fixing all the links?
Maybe there's a better program for checking links than MomSpider.
Has anyone moved up from modem to either DSL or Cablemodem ("Roadrunner",
et. al.)? We could set up file sharing on the server for those with fast
connections, making administration and page authoring and maintenance
much easier.
Maybe the organization (or the Library?) could buy some of the O'Reilly
books on topics like "Sendmail" and "Managing Mailing Lists", or, for
those new to UNIX, "Learning the UNIX Operating System" and "Essential
System Administration".
Should we spend some of our "work sessions" teaching basic UNIX commands?
Here's a little piece of irony some might find amusing. Apple's new
operating system for the Macintosh, Mac OS X, is a true UNIX operating
system (called BSD, which stands for "Berkeley Software Distribution")
under the hood. It's supposed to be out in 2-3 months. Isn't that a
"kick in the pants"?
