AVCNet conversion, 2 more items of note

I discovered this in my OutBox from way back in February, so I don't know
if it ever went out. If you've seen it before, please ignore it. jah

===================================================================
While getting Norm Cote connected, today, I suddenly realized that the
new server behaves a little differently than the old one when you FTP to
it to upload or download your web pages. On the old server I could set
it up so it automatically started you in the folder/directory at the top
level of your web pages. On the new server, you have a "home" directory
which is separate from the web pages and that's where FTP starts you out.
So, once you get logged in, do the following:

  - go up one level to the "home" directory (/usr/home)
  - open the "httpd" directory
  - open the "html" directory (you're now at the top of the AVCNet "web
tree")
  - find your directory in the list of files and folders and open it

Now you should be in the same place as you were when you logged in on the
old server.

One more thing to note. From now on, I'm only going to send notices
about happenings with the servers to the AVCNet Discussion list. It's
getting too cumbersome to keep track of everyone who is updating web
pages on the site. So, if you aren't on the list already, please sign
up. To do it, go to the AVCNet home page, click on "Online Forums",
click "AVCNet Discussion List", fill in your e-mail address, and click on
"Send the list command". It's that simple. Then you'll be kept up to
date on what's happening. The number of messages is very low (5-10 per
month), so it shouldn't be an inconvenience.

See you online,

Jim Hart
