Conversion completed

Our web and ftp servers are now running on their new (albeit temporary)
home. You may start changing your pages, again. If you run into any
problems getting connected or have permissions issues come up when you
try to upload pages, just let me know. I will fix them right away. I've
tried to make sure that everyone's account got carried over correctly,
but I might have missed something somewhere. The addresses are still the
same, www.avcnet.org and ftp.avcnet.org.

Also a reminder...the new page counter program counts a hit once for
every time it occurs in a page. So, you probably will want to have only
one counter per page to avoid inflated hit counts. The counts and date
were carried over from the old server, though, thanks to Rob Spellman's
programming, so you shouldn't have missed a beat from the conversion.

Again, if you experience any unexpected difficulties or have questions,
feel free to drop me or Rob Spellman (rspell@bates.edu) a note. We'll do
everything we can to straighten it out.

We're looking forward to greater stability and flexibility, now that
we're in the Linux environment. First up, and nearly finished, is the
long awaited search engine for searching local web sites. It works.
I've run it against AVCNet and ExploreMaine. We just have to index all
the sites and get them set up on a regular schedule. Should be available
in the next couple of weeks. If you want to check it out, keeping in
mind that it isn't fully up, go to:

A lot of cleanup and reorganization has been going on behind the
scenes, too, thanks to Bob Kleckner. Things are much cleaner, more
consistent, and all links to the old icon-based version are gone. Also,
be sure to visit the all-new Lewiston Public Library site, designed and
written by Jennifer Davis-Tannous.

Last, but not least, is the new discussion list for the organization
"Citizens for Smart Development", spearheaded by Beth Whitman. They are
actively engaged with the issue of the new Super-Walmart project in
Auburn.

So, come check us out. AVCNet is on the move!
