Board

9:10 AM What is AVCNet?--Roger Fuller, Oak Hill High
School
     Brief history of AVCNet along with a description of
what we are today and how to access our member BBS's.

9:30 AM Community Networking in Bethel--Derek S.
Dresser, NetExpress, Inc.
     Overview of the computer networking activities
which are taking place in Bethel, Maine where schools,
citizens and businesses are connecting to each other and to
the world via the Internet and local cable TV lines.

10:15  Break

10:30  Break Out Sessions I 
          (participants may choose one session during
each time period)

     Session A: How to Get Online With AVCNet: A
Beginner's Guide
          Rob Waite, Sysop of EcoLink BBS, will
     walk participants through the basics: how to set up
     your computer, hook it up to a phone line, and use
     communications software to log on to a BBS.

     Session B: AVCNet Users Guide to Email and
Newsgroups
          Art Turley, Director of Facilities at the
     Brunswick Naval Air Station, will cover the art of
     Internet email and USENET newsgroups.

11:20 Break Out Sessions II

     Session C: Touring the World Wide Web
          Katherine Kott, Systems Librarian at the
     Bates College Library, will take attendees on a
     guided tour of the Internet's World Wide Web,
     stopping off at a wide range of hot sites representing
     businesses, government agencies, and other
     organizations.

     Session D: The NYNEX Proposal: Internet
Connectivity for Schools and Libraries
          In May, the Public Utilities Commission
     directed that up to $4.0 million of a mandated
     NYNEX rate reduction may be used "to provide
     additional services or equipment to libraries and
     schools."  Jim McCarthy of NYNEX will discuss
     the status of this proposal and answer questions.

12:00 Noon   Brainstorming Session of the Future of
AVCNet
          Join AVCNet Chair Rick Speer for a
     discussion on the potential of AVCNet and a look at
     where we can head in the near future.

registration is $3.
