Without going back and re-posting all the stuff I have sent (about as
far as the outbound dir...), summing up my impretions on free email
being chared for...
One time setup fee's or subscriptions that garner _much_ more than
avcent access are one thing, but I belive that saying "ok, you MUST pay
xx.xx dollers/peirod to use e-mail" is wrong. I know dam well that
any sysop or sysadmin on any net can provide e-mail access for free once
the setup is in place. Lord knows, I have spent many hours geting usenet
and e-mail set up at EcoLink, and _I_too_ have a subcription level. But
anyone that logs on can get e-mail here for free. No person has to pay,
because now it costs me nothing. All told, I have about $35.00 direct
cost's, and abiut 100 hours time. As this is a "hobby" for me, I guess
the time issue dosen't matter, but I belive that there are deeper issues
involved, and most of them are siply philisofical on my part. And for
the most part, it is also a moot point, since as long as EcoLink has a free
feed, it will supply Free Email, and some free newsgroups, for those who
would rather not pay.
