AVCNet and Free Access

I think Bob Leduc's approach of a basic period of free access is
admirable, however, I do not think that minimal fees are
unreasonable. IMHO, a one time setup fee is not out of line,
provided it would stay at $10 and $25. At this point, our BBS
operators are providing the only visible AVCNet presence and it would
be foolish to "regulate" them out of service.

I could support an approach somewhat like a maximum of X dollars
annually for basic access to email and newsgroups. (We may also want
to separate out a maximum account setup fee.) I don't feel that $25
is out of line for an annual maximum and basic access should include
at least 30 minutes daily of online time.

Let's remember that it takes time and money to keep a board going and
we should only be trying to stop glaring abuses of overcharging for
the free feeds provided through Bates and AVCNet.
