Monday, March 3

Before today's class you should read Moons and Planets, pp. 191-200. These sections introduce the study of planetary interiors, emphasizing "equations of state", melting, and the shape of a spinning planet.


Wednesday, March 5

Before today's class you should read Moons and Planets, pp. 200-211. These sections are about seismology, heat flow, and magnetism, and their importance in the study of planetary interiors.


Thursday, March 6, LAB

The lab today is on the measurement of heat capacities of various substances.


Friday, March 7

Before today's class you should read Moons and Planets, pp. 211-232. This is a "tour" of the planets with emphasis about what we know about the interiors. Note the summary list of concepts on p. 232.
