Welcome! The
Bowdoinham Contradance Series is held on the 3rd Saturday every
month at the old Town Hall in Bowdoinham, Maine. In 2012, we
celebrate the 21st Anniversary of the 3rd Saturday dance, continuing
in a long tradition of contrdancing in the Bowdoinham Town Hall.
Some say it's the center of the dancing universe; we simply thinks
it's one of the nicest dance halls in New England. We offer a
beginner's workshop every month at 7:30 pm, and a FREE annual
Mega-Beginners Workshop and dance in the fall. The dancing starts
at 8:00 and ends at 11:00 pm. It'll only set you back $9 or the
equivalent in creative barter - and with the ongoing Scrod
Bucks ContraNomic Stimulus Program, it's a bargain! Come
on out for a good time! Scrumptious brownies are always served
at half-time!!
Beginner's
Workshops 7:30 pm Every Month
We now offer a beginners workshop
before each monthly dance to help beginning contradancers develop
the skills they need to dance anywhere. Bill Olson teaches the
workshops which are held at 8 pm. Beginners will learn the basic
figures and moves needed to do most dances. To further help new
dancers get their moves down, the complexity of the dances taught
in the regular evening dance progresses through the night, so
that newly acquired dance skills can be honed and new ones added.
Annual FREE Mega-Beginners
Workshop!!
Annually, usually in October or
November, we hold a special extra long beginners workshop to
help encourage new people to get into contradancing. The workshop
and the evening dance are FREE for workshop participants, both
seasoned dancers and beginners alike. Check our schedule
for the next Mega workshop coming up in the fall.
Summer
Dance Series
Summer brings a collage of callers
and musicians to Bowdoinham as Scrod Pudding takes a hiatus.
Usually a few members of the band are on hand along with special
guest callers and musicians. We hope to see you on the dance
floor!
