Grading: Each student's grade will be computed in the following two ways and recorded as the higher of the two. Scheme A rewards consistent performance throughout the semester. Scheme B allows you a "bad day" on one of the midterm exams and gives you a chance to redeem yourself on the final.
Scheme A
Quiz average 15%
Higher of quiz ave and HW ave 15%
Exam I 20%
Exam II 20%
Final Exam 30%
Scheme B
Quiz average 15%
Higher of quiz ave and HW ave 15%
Lower of Exam I, II 10%
Higher of Exam I, II 20%
Final Exam 40%
Your lowest homework score and lowest quiz score will be dropped from your final grade.

Note that if your HW average is higher than your quiz average, then each counts 15%. But if your quiz average is higher than your HW average, then your HW scores don't count at all.

If an evening exam conflicts with rehearsal, practice, or other activity, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can make alternate arrangements.

Homework: The best way to learn math is to do problems! Homework will be due weekly on Thursday. (But see note under Grading above.) You are encouraged to work on the homework with other students, but all work you hand in must be your own.

Quizzes: We will usually have quizzes on Thursday. These will provide you with a good way to gauge how well you are learning the material.
