Is the time honored assumption that of possession by the individual subject? My own experience is that my active possession of the text is largely limited to the rhetorical arrangement of thoughts that are not mine but come from the questions and the language. Attention and waiting. Thinking is not something we Do.
Is it then possession by a group subject? The subject of the philosophical tradition or the discipline? Or the language, as Heidegger would say? But the language has no subject; it is a world, not a world-view(er).
