Labyrinth

Labyrinth. A labyrinth is not a web. Webs may be sticky but their pattern is usually regular. Labyrinths are devious, though Ariadne made a way out. Socrates was always enmeshed in webs of discourse, but kept the spider's control. He insisted there was no labyrinth, that true ways could be led to the center and back. Plato agreed, and philosophy gathered momentum for these broad ways, if only it could find the correct map or distinguish the proper thread. But there Ariadne remains silent. Hypertexts mimic, but are not, the labyrinth of discourses, which cannot be caught in any artifact, no matter how it spreads its nets.
