Not all malls are created equal. There is the shopping plaza, the strip mall fronted by parking, the enclosed plaza, the big box category killer, the destination mall circled by parking, the urban mall in a historical building. Then they are mixed versions. Then there is the home shopping network, more like a market, with its intimacy to the viewer. Soon the virtual arcade.
