We should think in terms of a movement toward greater individual and social self-possession, located within the ongoing reappropriation and re-creation of already active sets of possibilities. We are never in a position to dominate completely, or to create total rationality in the textures of action that define us, but we can come to be more critically aware# of our participation in the process of their support and reinterpretation through time.

This paradoxical active-passive repetition can be further discussed using some Germanic and French ideas.
