Tourists at Taos and other Southwest pueblos have been disturbed by native Americans who are doing their ritual dances wearing Nike shoes, yet the dances are contemporary religious celebration, not just staged authenticity, so the Nikes are more authentic, if you want that word. (Lippard 1999, 67)
