Some themed places are multi-themed. The Disney Magic Kingdom fantasy areas or the Epcot national areas have no closed borders; so sound and sight overlap, clashing and enticing you, as well as providing occasions for complexity and psychic distance.
Most themed places are mono-themed, as at Opryland, and all those Frontierlands, Santa Claus towns, and the like. A city like New York can be considered a multi-themed area, but the themed places such as Battery Park City, South Street Seaport, Chinatown, feel mono-themed when you are within them. Mono-themed places are more numerous, and more problematic from a critical point of view, since they encourage immersion, whereas multi-themed places increase one's awareness of the theme fantasies as such.
