Renita Martin, one of Boston s most talented playwrights, blends poetic lyricism with great storytelling. (Terry Byrne, Boston Herald) Martin is also an actor, teacher, and poet, whose works have most recently appeared in Ma Ka: Diasporic Jukes and Does Your Mama Know? Excerpts from her one-woman show, 5 Bottles in a 6 Pack, are scheduled to be published in Dykes With Baggage (Oct. 2000). She has traveled nationally touring her performance pieces. Her plays -- Peace in the Midst, Frisco s Cafe, and Lo She Comes -- have been produced in Boston and nationally.
Martin is currently finishing a Master s program at Brandeis University, where she is a Annette B. Miller fellow and recipient of the Herbert and Nancy Beigel New Play Award.
In her additional time, she enjoys teaching at Emerson College; volunteering as director of Rhythm Visions Production Company, Inc. -- a non-profit devoted to teaching and producing artists of color -- founded by Martin in 1996; and preparing to perform 5 Bottles... for The Theater Offensive s 2000 season (June 9-24).
