Weeks 4-6.	Acids and bases. The pH scale. Titrations. Indicators. Buffers. (Chapter 19) REVIEW. QUIZ	Reactions using dilute acids (see note C below).
Week 7.	Salts of various acids; review of nomenclature.
Week 8.	Systematic chemistry: nitrogen, phosphorus, and their compounds. (Appendix A, R24-27) QUIZ
Weeks 9-11.	Reaction rates. Equilibria. Gases in equilibrium. Equlibrium solutions. Buffers and pH equilibria. LeChatelier's principle. Non-equilibrium conditions. (Chapter 18) REVIEW. QUIZ	Buffers and pH
Weeks 12-16.	Thermochemistry. (Chapter 17) REVIEW. FULL-PERIOD TEST	? Determining specific heat; heat of fusion.
Week 17-20.	Oxidation and reduction. Balancing half-reactions. (Chapter 20) REVIEW. QUIZ
Week 21-22.	Systematic chemistry: silicon, germanium, and their compounds. Silicate minerals and crystallography (briefly). (Appendix A, R18-23) QUIZ
Week 23-26.	Electrochemistry. Electroplating. Batteries and solar cells. (Chapter 21) REVIEW. QUIZ
Week 27-29.	Nuclear chemistry: radioactive decay, rates of decay, radioactive dating, radioactive tracers, balancing nuclear equations, decay series, applications (incl. nuclear medicine, smoke detectors, etc.), chain reactions (uncontrolled in weapons, controlled in power plants), thermonuclear reactions and energy in the sun and other stars. (Chapter 25) REVIEW. QUIZ
Week 30-31.	Environmental chemistry, toxicology. Pollution and its remediation.
Week 32,33	Carbon and its compounds. Introduction to organic chemistry. (Chapters 22, 23) REVIEW.
Week 34	Catch-up week and REVIEW. FINAL EXAM
Weeks 35,36	Review of exam. Time available for field trips.

NOTES ON SELECTED LABS: (All very tentative:)

Chemistry and Biology will have double periods scheduled once a week to permit two-period labs in each subject.

Note A: Reactions like starch + iodine (color changes), acids and carbonates (bubbling), precipitation of BaSO₄ or AgCl.

Note B: Impurities to include cornstarch, sugar, salt, methylene blue. A distillation apparatus may be set up in a central, public place to run (with supervision) throughout the morning or all day. During their next lab period, students can test both the initial impure solution and the distillate.

Note C: Water & dilute acids (HCl, sulfuric, vinegar) tested with the following: salt, baking soda, limestone, iron, aluminum, sulfur.
